About me

Self potrait

I took this selfie in summer 2017

You can enlarge the picture by clicking it with the mouse cursor.

I am 71 years old retired male who lives in Lapland, Finland. I have one son and one grandchild. In my spare time I read, write, play the guitar and hike. I also like to watch movies.

I have published three books of poetry, Valkoinen vitsa (1989), Paljon on meneillään (1994) and Postrahavasta (2012). Unfortunately they have been written in Finnish but I try to translate some of them onto this blog later on. Now you must content yourself with what I got here,  a couple of poems. I have written also songs. You can listen to them on my Home Page at: http://www.yellingrosa.com/musiikki01.htm. The music is an international language. They are on the Musiikkia -category.

I have uploaded 3rd of February 2012 two of my poems here at https://yellingrosa.wordpress.com/poems The one of them is from my first book The White Lecture (Valkoinen vitsa). It is called If I Seek You (Jos etsin sinua). A Young Woman Made Herself Next to Me poem is not on either of my collections. It is my intention to upload some verse every now and then. Anyway, now it is easier for you to find my verses as they are on their own page, POEMS.

I have published two stories in English on my Home Site  at http://www.yellingrosa.com/stories01.html. It is my intention to published more stories there when time goes on.

Because I have used all my free space here, I will continue this  blog at: https://yerosacom.wordpress.com/

I hope we will meet there again.

All the best.

Hei!

Olen itsekin Lapista lähtöisin, joten tuo huumorin laji tuntuu kotoisalta.

Joskus voisi olla kiva vaihtaa kokemuksia Wordressin käytöstä, bloggaamisesta tms. Olen jossain vaiheessa avaamassa uutta nettisivua, joka liittyy tulevaan työhöni. Kiinnostaisi tietää esimerkiksi, onko monimutkaista tehdä samoille sivuille sekä englannin että suomen kielistä versiota.

En tiedä oletko Facebookissa, mutta minut sieltä löytää, jos jättää kaksiosaisen sukunimeni loppuosan pois.

  7. This is what I love about blogging – discovering fabulous minds far away from my place of origin, yet reminding me that we all come from the same place, in the end.

Thanks and the pleasure was all mine. I really enjoyed visiting your blog.
It’s a funny incident because I thought earlier in the Sunday afternoon as well how we all are the same, citizens of this one globe, made of the same wood with the same tools by the carpenters alike. In some point of evolution we have started to become differentiated. I believe that the language has a conclusive part in this. It has been incapable of following the migration of people and nowadays the fast engineering in trades. It has not designed to describe the abstractions to a great extent. The language is the tool for concrete objects and when it is used to express ideas the misconception are unavoidable.

Where this will conduct us is a good question. I don’t have an answer for it and I believe that every soul on earth is at a loss what to do at least in some degree. The experts in different lines have developed the specific jargons in order to get things done but this lends itself to the larger disintegration. The growing amount of micro communities dealing with themselves doesn’t bring us together. Of course, we manage with the words in the future somehow but we should see that they are not infallible. They can fool us if we are not reasonable.

The modern poetry is one expedient to express the human inner entity. Sometimes it hits the target because it has managed to free the words from all the used objects: beliefs which are trying to build the bridges between the concrete things and abstractions. It goes without saying that poems can’t compensate the everyday language, but they can be the moments of a human consistency which we really need to understand that we all are the same.

Thank you for giving me the courage to expose this. It was easier when I got the proof of our similarity from you.

I love words, the way they look and sound, their many meanings and change of usage over the centuries. At their best they point us in the direction of something remarkable. I have chosen in the past couple of years to use colour as my language allowing words to appear sparingly. Looking without thinking requires practice but allowing a moment of space between looking and verbal communication can result in some very perceptive thoughts. Many thanks for your thought soothing and provoking blog posts.

Thanks for visiting my blog and reading my Friday Fictioneers story: Black Moon! Your work is interesting (the English bits – I have no Finnish). I have listened to your music a bit, sang along with it. I particularly like: Yot etsivat yksin. I’d like to sing this. Do you have any sheet music? It would be good to have the lyrics at least and also an English translation. Ann

    • Yelling Rosa says:

You are very welcome. I have notated all my songs but the lyrics are in Finnish. It is my intention that I try to translate at least one of my song in English. Anyway, it is not so simply. The poems you can read here are more rewritten than translated but when it comes to lyric I should be faithful to the story and of course the syllables must match the melody.

I have uploaded some sheet music to my home site at: http://yellingrosa.com/nuotit01.htm but not Yöt etsivät yksin lohdutusta (Nights all alone are looking for the comfort). If everything goes fine, it will be there sooner or later.

      PS. 25th of September 2013
I have uploaded Yöt etsivät yksin lohdutusta to my Nuotteja page.

I am afraid that the Sami culture is more or less ruined as all the other indigenous cultures by the invaders and later by the mass culture. It is a sad process where the majority rules the way of living and it keeps on going as long as people don’t understand that the differences are our similarities. There can’t be two identical souls without saying there could be two identical nations. The easiest option is to deny divergences but this means automatically that someone will cry in the end.

I liked the name Rosa after being in Spain when I was a child, so I was called Rosa already as a boy. Because I sang high and with the loud voice on the band, other members of the band started to call me Yelling. So I got the first part of my name.

Thank you for your comment. I am happy that you found my verses enjoyable. I liked it at your place too. I couldn’t guess that you haven’t written longer. I am very reserved when I am asked to give guidance in writing. The world is full of people who are eager to give advice but sometimes that kind of guidance can be harmless. My own main thread is that honesty is the best policy but it is not easy way to speak. Sometimes you are not liked when you say things as they are but how it could be the other way round. The art is the way of describing the life. If the author gives up being honest, he/she turns into a designer. Sometimes it is imperative that the disadvantages are mentioned, because without them the advantages are not recognized. The other night I put it down in my note book that the confusion is the mother of the order. Of course this doesn’t mean that everything must turn upside down to get things right, but when we are aware of the opposite, we can respect the right act.

I am sure that everyone will find the best way to write on their own. It is like whatever skill in this world that practice makes perfect. You know your capacities so just adjust them to your verses, and read much. Besides, it’s your freedom to decide how seriously you will take your poetry. Don’t try too hard. If the writing will be obligatory to you, the flame will fade away. “Colors of Poetry” is a good start.

      All the best for you

Thank you for being here in return. I have lost both of my grandmothers and haven’t ever seen my grandfathers. Even though I haven’t seen my grandmothers for over 40 years, I still call them back to my mind every now and then. They represented the good human values we have unfortunately forgotten to respect. They had the courage to stop when the speed was too fast instead of running away the troubles. I wish you and your love ones all the best of times.

I really liked what you wrote about yourself. I imagine it must be very nice to have published books of poetry! I work in physics and published a book on physics in Portuguese. I’m happy because the English version of the book was accepted for publication recently. I also have an only child and he makes poetry, plays guitar, translates poetry from English into Portuguese and is doing his PhD.

It is interesting that your last name appears to be Portuguese. It is the same surname of my mother: Rosa. And Rosa, of course, it is the flower rose.

Thank you for having enjoyed one of my blogs (Magical world of Tania ..). If you have time look at my blog where I put my own paintings: ARt_BRAZIL Tania. I love to paint!

I always like to see artists who say that they don’t want any awards and are content with the continued loyalty of their readers. I wonder what’s the psychology behind it though. I never quite understood it. I suppose since I’m not a published author I haven’t had any level of satisfaction when it comes to something concrete and finite that I can touch and feel and call an achievement I’ve obtained via my writing. Alas, I digress… if you would like to make it to my next Thank You Tuesday post then be sure to follow my blog and I’ll put a nice link back to yours on this upcoming Tuesday Post!

  212. Waaaaaw!!! Here is United Nations Of Poetry! Hello Mister Yelling! Some time ago, I remarked a few “likes” on my poetry blog, that coming from Finland. At first, I thought it was just a fluke, because I did not think, that there may be a connection between a poem written in Romanian and a reader from Finland (the differences between the family of Latin languages and the family of Finno-Ugric languages, are very big; not even Google Translate, can not compensate these differences)?! Then I thought that “likes”, are for graphics?! Today I had the curiosity to see where and why, coming these “likes”. Now I found out that these “likes”, coming from one “Institution Of Poetry”. You are a real “Institution Of Poetry”, Mister Yelling! Your appreciation (whatever are their motivation), ennobles my poetry blog and for that, I thank you Mister Yelling! Warm greetings from Romania!

Paola is a digital human voice that uses Italian accent. Of course, it is not the same thing than a real human voice. Perhaps, I am going to find someone who reads my poems in Latin if I ever write them. Have you recited poems or do you know any Italian who has.
      Your English is perfectly well.

  293. Thank you for visiting my blog articulation.me
Your “like” led me here and I have been rambling about and seeing what you are up to. I find you to be very talented and am impressed by what I have seen. Please visit me again. I think I am subscribing to you – although I confess I am a bit confused as to which one of these sites you are presently keeping up. Crossing my fingers I have chosen the right one.
Peace for you in the New Year.
    Linda
