When The World Doesn’t Fit You

When the world doesn’t fit you
Nothing much you can do.
Because the ball huge it is
just face yourself.

nihil potes tu facere.

About Yelling Rosa

I am retired. In my spare time I read, write, play the guitar and hike. I have published three verse books in Finnish and recorded my songs. You can listen to them on YouTube. I have translated some of my poems on Yelling Rosa's Weblog. I also like to watch movies. Olen kiinnostunut lukemisesta, kirjoittamisesta, kitaransoitosta ja luonnossa vaeltamisesta. Olen julkaissut kolme runokirjaa ja laulujani on äänitteillä. Voit lukea runojani Yelling Rosan kotisivuilta ja kuunnella laulujani YouTubessa. Olen elokuvafriikki.

Thank you for your this words, so true. Hard job the latin transaltion! I dont’understand the use of “fit” in latin. I think it means “happens” or “to be made”.

Thanks for your opinion. Fio, fiery, factum = to become, arise; to be made, to be done; to happen, Collins Latin Concise Dictionary, p. 88. First the end of the line was ’fit tibi’. But to whom else, it’s not to be made if not the person that the rune singer is speaking to. Of course the idea can be expressed with your suggestion ’non conformat tibi’ but with the different nuance.

      Cassell’s Latin Dictionary, p. 248

Fio => (1) Of persons and things ’to be made, come into existence’ (2) of actions ’to be done’; of events ’to happen’ with ablative, Cicero: per aliquem fit quominus.

I hope this makes sense. When it comes to Latin there is no living native speaker to tell us how things should say in the living world. I have noticed that even the experts are not of one mind about Latin. Moreover, those experts are not keen on helping modern poets. They like to keep themselves upon the common people. I guess that has always been the case and that’s why Latin so fiercely turned into Romance languages. Don’t mind my reply because I am explaining to myself as much as I am explaining to you.

I’m looking forward to having your reply.

Have a nice and rewarding week 🎺💃🏿🎸

    Coucou toi, mon Ami, Amie
    Je viens déposer
    Le soleil dans ton coeur
    Ma douceur dans ton âme
Un ciel étoilé dans ton regard
    Lorsque ton coeur
    Parlera à mon coeur
Nos âmes brûleront ,d’une douce chaleur
Lorsque je viens te rendre visite
Il me semble que je prends ta main
Afin d’être unis d’une grande amitié Céleste
Agréable journée ou soirée belle semaine
    Gros bisous Bernard

    Hi—

I stopped by to thank you for the likes you gave to my two posts on the Mueller Report.
We Americans are so insular that I’m always pleasantly surprised when bloggers from far away express an interest in our messy politics.

And then I discover a retired Finn writing poetry in Latin. The blogging world is filled with delightful surprises, and I’m happy to make your virtual acquaintance.

    Cheers,
    Annie
