Luck obviously plays a factor in success but I think persistence is more important. Also when you get a lucky break knowing how to capitalise on it which takes a certain amount of inspiration as well as hard work. Mind you I just had a lucky break with managing to get a top publisher to read my blog and I think that may make the difference between the blog being published or not.
