Stray Leprechauns

Stray Leprechauns
run away from their forest
and slip into your dreams
making your life miserable.
They can be very impressive
when they’re begging your
attention and sympathy,
but turn them back
to their primeval
where they must deal things
with their alike.
And don’t look back.
It’s the only way to
avoid being moved
to tears.
You are not
the responsible
of what have
happened
in the
woods.

People will ask

If you want to
make some noise,
keep it quiet
and people will
ask after you.

Disagreement

A
man is his
disagreement.

The Paradox

The
Paradox
is there
where everything
is possible,
but a man
is against
it.

A Young Woman Made Herself Next to Me

When I came in the post office today
A young woman made herself next to me.
She looked me in the eye
Getting me confused.
I turned my head away from her
But she kept on searching me.
She found my face sideways
And promptly bounded on my line
I wonder: why this honour for me
As I am not a fresh man any more.
Anyway, it was so intentional
I couldn’t be mistaken about her.

Later that day I strolled on the pavement
She touched me lightly with her elbow;
Passed out of my sight on her bike.
I smiled at her and said to myself:
There’s a still some adjustment to do
Before men know what you’re aspiring for.
On getting home I studied a tree
through the window.
It’s leaves were dancing on bright summer light
Accompanied by gentle breeze
And my heart was turned on the same tune
And she kept on coming next to me.

If I Seek You

If I seek you
I will not find you
If I deny the warmth of your heart
I will cut off the path
Of one’s own accord
People are arriving
And departing
No use to hold back
No drive away
Sometimes someone
Can’t decide
That one must be helped

But it’s hard to advise
Almost impossible
That’s why
I’m keeping my voice down
When they make noises
About destiny

1st letter from www.poetry.com

Dear Yelling, December 4, 2001
After carefully reading and discussing your poem, our Selection committee has certified your poem as a semi-finalist in our International Open Poetry Contest. Your poem will automatically be entered into the final competition hen in January 2002. As a semi-finalist, you now have an excellent chance of winning one of 104 cash or gift prizes — including the $ 1,000.00 Grand Prize. You may even win the $ 10,000.00 Annual Grand Prize! We wish you the best luck as you compete for these prizes in the coming weeks (a complete list of prizes is enclosed).

And that’s not all …

Yelling … Imagine Your Poem Featured in a Beautiful Coffee-table Edition!

In celebration of the unique talent that you have displayed, we also wish to publish your poem in what we promises to be one of the most highly sought after collections of poetry we have ever published …

Under a Quicksilver Moon
Library of Congress ISBN-0-7951-5062-2

Under a Quicksilver Moon, scheduled for publication in Spring 2002, will be a classic, coffee-table quality hardbound volume — printed on fine-milled paper specifically selected to last for generations. It will make a handsome addition to any library, a treasured family keepsake, or a highly valued personal gift.

NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER

Before going any further, Yelling, let me make one thing clear … your poem was selected for publication, and as a contest semi-finalist, on the basis of your unique talent and artistic vision. We believe it will add to the importance and appeal of this edition. In this regard, you are under no obligation whatsoever to submit any entry fee, any subsidy payment, or to make any purchase of any kind. Of course, many people do wish to own a copy of the anthology in which their artistry appears. If this is the case, we welcome your order — guarantee your satisfaction. Please see the enclosed material for special discount information if you would like to acquire a copy of Under a Quicksilver Moon.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NOW?

As I mentioned, your poem has automatically been advanced to the final competition — so you do not need to take further action on the contest at this time. However, regarding the publication of your poetry, you must proofread your poem, which appears on the enclosed Artist’s Proof. Please carefully review your poem for typographical errors and make any necessary changes. The Artist’s Proof also verifies that “If I Seek You” is your original work of art. And Yelling, let me assure you, your poem remains your property — Under a Quicksilver Moon is copyrighted as a compilation. The copyright notice is in your name. This means that you retain the copyright to your own work of art.

You must also decide if you would like to have some personal information about yourself and your poetry included in this elegant edition. In this way, the media and public can gain a greater awareness about your motivations, the meaning poetry has in your life, the story behind your poem, or your personal philosophical point of view. We have set aside a special biographical section in the anthology for this purpose. And although we must charge a nominal fee for this service, you are under no obligation to include this information. Your poem can be published without it if you wish. Please see the enclosed Artist’s Profile for further information.

In the meantime, our design department has already begun working on a distinctive layout for the poetry selected for this anthology. But remember, you must complete the enclosed Artist’s Proof and return it to us as soon as possible. And, if you wish to acquire a copy of Under a Quicksilver Moon at a contributor’s special pre-publication discount, please complete the appropriate information, also on the Artist’s Proof.

Again, congratulations, Yelling. We feel you have a special talent and look forward to the publication of your poem in Under a Quicksilver Moon.

Sincerely

If for any reason you are dissatisfied, your money will be promptly refunded.

2nd letter from www.poetry.com

Dear Yelling,
I am excited to inform you that in addition to your selection for inclusion in a hardbound anthology, you have also been chosen to be one of 33 poets whose artistry will be recorded professionally as a special part of a new poetry collection, The Sound of Poetry. I’m writing to get your permission to include your poem, “If I Seek You”, in this highly acclaimed and internationally distributed three-album collection, scheduled to be released four weeks after we receive all permissions.

Yelling, our Editors have personally selected this group of poems whose expressive quality would best exemplify the art of poetry through the spoken word. The fact that your poem is among is a testament to the diversity of your poetic talent. We feel your poem can be appreciated not only in print, but can also be enjoyed by people listening to it presented aloud by a professional reader,

The Sound of Poetry, released on both compact disc (CD) and cassette tape, features an inspiring introduction as a prelude to the selected artistry, as well as a brief commentary about each featured poem and poet. Beautiful baroque music forms the background to the spoken words.

Just imagine, Yelling, how your friends and family will feel when they hear your name … your words … presented as part of this exclusive collection. This album will instantly become a treasured keepsake to all who hear and enjoy it.

I have enclosed a copy of your poem as it is scheduled to be recorded on the album set. Please carefully read your poem and mane any necessary corrections to be forwarded to the recording studio (Please forgive us if you have already made these corrections on your “Artist’s Proof.” Any corrections you may have made to that proof have been forwarded to your Editor, and you can be assured that they will appear in the book. However this “recording proof” must be sent directly to the recording studio as soon as possible, so we are asking that you review it again for this purpose.)

The Sound of Poetry will be a major addition to the body of poetic recordings that are available today. And, as with all of our projects, although you are under no obligation to make a purchase of album set, it is available to you directly from us at a reduced price not to the public. And, as always, your satisfaction is assured with an unconditional money-back guarantee.

On, and one final note, Yelling. If you have a friends or relatives who have also been selected for our publications, please be aware that this offer may not be available to them. It has been extended only those individuals whose poems have been personally chosen by our Editors as having quality that can be appreciated not only in print, but through spoken word as well.

Sincerely

Howard Ely

P.S. You won’t find a better value in the CD or cassette industry than The Sound of Poetry. The highest quality artistic and manufacturing standards have gone into the production of this three-album set. And, of course, best of all is that will feature the poetic artistry of Yelling Rosa.
